Three cheers for summer and the joy of rediscovering the Commanderie de Peyrassol

This summer, the estate will evolve in a breath-taking new way. A novel, more spacious reception area will showcase the entire range of Peyrassol wines, which will also be available for tasting. The path that runs through the vineyards and the undergrowth, dotted with the estate’s formidable collection of sculptures, has been thoroughly redesigned to enhance both its art and its nature.

New works of art by Bertrand Lavier, Daniel Buren, Pascale Marthine Tayou or DeWain Valentine have been acquired to enrich the experience of walking along it. A temporary exhibition by the well-known artist, Anish Kapoor, makes the estate a must-see destination.

However, a visit would not be complete without a comforting break under the mulberry trees around the Bistrot de Lou and tasting the delicious “verrines” – Provençal specialities prepared by Chef Guillaume. Chez Jeannette is a more refined restaurant, with a terrace overlooking the vineyards and an elegant menu prepared with the estate’s farm produce, which is picked daily. The Commanderie de Peyrassol awaits you!

The Art of Living in Provence

Founded in the 13th century by the Knights Templar, the Commanderie de Peyrassol covers an area of some 850 hectares dotted with oaks and olive groves, with 92 hectares dedicated to growing grapes. Thanks to its outstanding natural location the Commanderie was a favoured staging post and a place of rest for pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land.

At an elevation of 330 metres on the lower slopes of the Massif des Maures, the vineyard sits on a clay and limestone soil which is ideal for viticulture. Since the first varieties were planted by the Templars some 800 years ago, generations of wine growers have applied their know-how to nurturing the vineyard and its wines through the dedicated cultivation of this exceptional terroir.

Since 2003 Alban Cacaret has managed the Commanderie de Peyrassol alongside his uncle, Philippe Austruy, who has owned the estate since 2001. Together they have restored the domaine to its former glory and have made Peyrassol one of the most respected vineyards in Provence.

The wines of Peyrassol

The Peyrassol wine storehouse, built from ancestral stone, contains the latest equipment which allows vinification to be performed with a high degree of precision. While remaining true to tradition, the domaine has adapted to the major advances in winemaking, combining these with the expertise of a highly capable team which oversees the operations.

The wines of Peyrassol express to perfection the quality of the terroir and several centuries of know-how. 1204, Clos Peyrassol and Château Peyrassol are three AOC Côtes de Provence lineages which are classed amongst the top grands crus in their AOC category and represent the very essence of Provence. Fresh, refined and delicate, they will provide the perfect accompaniment to shared occasions and moments of relaxation, and will surprise you with their powerful and harmonious aromas.
